Q1. What are the current problems with the Child Health Information Systems?

Ans:

Due to increase in population and decrease in budget , the health department could not monitor the health of                 country’s children. Current problems with Child Health Information System are:

a) No national system for collecting health data on children.

b) No accurate records on the number of children who have been immunized and the type of vaccines they have received.

c) No system for tracking children’s weights.

d) No consistent records of what diseases a child might have had in the past.

Q2. What information do you need to find out about the CHIS to develop a detailed understanding of the current system?

Ans:

Inorder to develop a detailed understanding of the current system, the following information has to be collected and stored.

  •  Health centre information: Health centre name, identity number, fax & telephone numbers, population served by  the health centre
  • Child information: Child name, unique identity number, age, gender, school attended by the child & grade
  • Child vaccination information: Type of vaccine given to a child on a given visit to the health centre
  • Vaccines: Different types of vaccines used by health centres
  • Child medical visit information: Weight of the child, disease diagnosed and severity level
  • Diseases: Types of diseases commonly found in children
  • Type of visit: Vaccination visit or medical visit
